Original Cub carb value

Postby Davestation75 » Wed Nov 07, 2018 8:21 pm

Hello all .

I have what I believe to be an original carb off a 55 Cub.
I'm curious as to the value , say if I were to sell it .
Was working fine when removed .

Numbers stamped are

4 55
251234R94
Has IH stamped in 2 locations .

Thanks in advance .

I’m thinking between $25 & $75 depending on condition. Only one way to tell if it works good or not is to put it on an engine and test it. And it depends on the bolt holes if their stripped, repaired or need repairing and if the top is warped which can be fixed as well and the fuel line threads. Lots of variables on a Cub carb. It’s not rare by any means so it won’t bring a lot.

Other opinions may vary. Original Cub carbs that are IH and in good running condition are worth 75 plus depending on true condition and demand. The import carbs that have arrived are much cheaper (50 + - new ) and cheaper isn't always better.

Every opinion varies, lol. If it’s a take off of a Cub and untouched, meaning not rebuilt, personally I wouldn’t give more than $75 and that’s if the threads look good all over.

I don’t need it and I’m not trying to buy it. The man ask for a value and nobody has said anything so I threw that out there.

I’d much rather have an original instead of a reproduction any day but no sense in paying half what a parts Cub is worth just for a carb is all I’m saying.

Look on eBay, the pre owned originals are on there for $80 and up. Whether they are selling is another matter.

My int154 (60’s) built has a IH carb. All the rest I seen are zeniths.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I would seal the carburetor in a zip lock bag and put it on the shelf.
I have an excuse. CRS.
