Carberator

Postby Plemann » Mon Jul 02, 2018 11:02 am

Help. My cub will only start and run in full choke position. Is the float stuck or one the jets clogged. How do I fix?

It may be blockage in the carburetor or somewhere between the tank and the carb. If you have an IH carb, remove the brass hex head main jet from the side of the carb, then turn on the gas. You should be able to catch a pencil sized stream that will continue until the gas is turned off. If you have that, take a fine copper wire, like telephone wire and clean the hole in the end of the jet and see if that corrects the problem. If you don't have continuous flow, the screen in the gas inlet may be clogged, the sediment bowl screen may be clogged, there may be debris in the gas tank clogging the sediment bowl intake. You'll need to check each area and continue until you find the blockage. There is also the possibility that the float is stuck or leaking, or there is debris in the needle valve. I'd check the simple stuff first before you take off and open up the carb.

If you have take the carb apart, make sure you pull the top straight up. There is an idle tube that is screwed in and it will break very easily if care is not used when disassembling.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

There is also the possibility that the choke came loose and is working backwards. Been there myself.
