Cub Cadet 1015

Postby Slim140 » Tue Dec 05, 2017 8:06 am

A customer here at the machine shop ask me several months ago if I would be interested in his Cub Cadet 1015 mower. My first thought was no, I don't need it. I said what's the matter with it, he said someone gave him a J.D. mower 3 years ago and he hasn't used it since then but nothing was wrong with it. I ask him to send me some pictures and waited and waited and forgot about it. Sunday he text me a picture of it and said it's on the truck I'll bring it tomorrow and you stop by when you get off and we will slide it into your truck. I thought well, okay. It's in really good shape for what it is, the hoods not cracked, the lights aren't busted and the fenders aren't dented. I know it's an MTD with Cadet paint and decals and I know it's only worth about $250-$300 running and mowing but that's $250-$300 more than I have in it right now

Congrats on your prize. Someone said "If it's free it's for me". I'm sure you will find a good use or home for it.

That’s right! I couldn’t pass it up for free. I don’t need it so it will probably be changing addresses soon.

Figured I better sand the flywheel before attempting to crank it since it’s been sitting. Glad I pulled the cover off.

The 1015 was made from 1988 to 1991, had a 10 hp engine and was gear drive. Here are the serial number/factory number by year.

Year Factory Number Serial number range
1988 138-200-100 126,001-147,087
1989 139-200-100 147,088-170,600
1990 130-200-100 170,601-192,000
1991 131-200-100 192,001-207,400

I have a brochure for the 1991 LT model line up, but it's too large to post here.

Yep, the infamous mouse house!
Every spring I need to remind myself and my son to take the engine cover off and check for mouse nests.

Changed the oil, cleaned the rats nest out from under flywheel cover, cleaned carb bowl, changed old gas to new. Hooked jump box to it and it fired up and runs great. Now I need a battery and a front tube for one side.

Looks to be an ‘89 model.

I truncated the brochure to show only the 1015 stuff and then had to reduce the file size even more.

The price you get for the 1015 may purchase something toward one of your Cubs. Or find it a good home for someone who's needing a mower. Either way, you've done well.

Those were actually not too bad of a machine. I sold a 1315 to a friend of mine in 2005, and he loves it. They were built a lot heavier than the 1000-series being sold today, and really not that bad of a machine.

I gave my brother-in-law a 1320 a couple of years back and he loves it. The hydro on it is getting a bit weak, but the 12.5 Kohler Command engines is still running strong. They are built heavier than what CC is offering today.

It’s ready to hook the trac-vac to. Bought a patch kit for the tube in the front, had to buy a light socket for one headlight and a battery. I have $21.36 in this mower as it sits. That doesn’t include the oil I put in it that was leftover from a jug of Rotella from something else. Also made a new knob and installed a spring to fix the deck height adjustment. That’s what the red bungee cord was holding up. He said the knob flew off one day while mowing. I had full intentions of selling this mower or trading it for something. I think I may hang onto it for a bit now. I put the trac-vac hose adapter on the deck and am going to mow/mulch our leaves with the zero turn and get them kind of away from everything and then get them up with this mower. The trac-vac behind the zero turn is aggravating but it beats a tarp and a rake

Gave it a 5 hour workout yesterday getting leaves up. Ran great and no problems. Think it’s a keeper. With that small deck I didn’t even have to get off and unclog the hose.
