Cub Cadet LT1050 won't start

Postby Brutalfly » Thu Mar 13, 2014 6:02 am

The other day I changed the oil in my cub cadet
I went to start it and it went to kick over and then I heard about big "THUNK" and now when I got to start it the only thing it will do when I turn the key is make a ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ sound.
Does anybody know what it might be?

Depends on the engine type, but it sounds like the starter.

Could be the starter drive gear is dirty and not spinning out when the starter turns.
If you can get to the drive end spray it with some cleaner or compressed air.

Could be the starter is not turning fast enough to spin out the gear.
Check battery connections and charge on battery.

Most common problem with a Briggs is the plastic drive gear on the starter broke.
If it is a Kohler the end of the shaft may have broken.
Either way you will have to pull the starter.

Those tractors have the Kohler Courage engine which is really prone to shearing off the flywheel key. Open the hood to see if the flywheel is turning when you hit the key switch to start.

If it's turning, but there's nothing puffing out the exhaust, then the key is sheared off in the flywheel.

If the flywheel isn't turning it's the starter as mentioned above.

Thanks for your help guys.
I know between you guys and my father-in-law you have pretty much had the same answers.
I just had to get some more opinions.
I am hoping to get a starter sometime in the next couple of days and try it out
Thank you for your help!
