1250 --- No Start

Postby Bill Hudson » Mon Jan 13, 2014 2:29 pm

OK, trying to get this puppy to start and it will not fire, even once. Here is what I have done:
- new battery
- new plug, gapped at .034
- points, dressed with an ignition file, gapped at .020
- compression at 105 lbs.
- got spark to the plug, blue spark easily jumps a 1/4" gap
- fresh fuel from a pony tank
- air cleaner assembly removed

I want to get this running so that I can check the rest of the unit, to identify other issues need to be addressed.

Thanks for your help.

Remove carburetor fuel bowl. Check for stuck needle valve and crud. Other option is to put carb/fuel line cleaner in pony tank. Or do both. Sticking needle valve is common, at least on my Cadets, if the engine sets for a considerable length of time.

Edit: Could try starting fluid to see if engine will fire. If so, problem is in the carburetor.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Bill to check for a carb problem squirt some carb cleaner into the carb and try to start. If it runs on that you have a carburetor issue.

Thanks fellas,

I pulled the carb, boy, was it full of crud! Got it cleaned and waiting for the carb kit. As soon as I get the kit, I'll put the carb back together and see what happens. Thanks again.

I'm assuming that you got your CC to start(?). If so, glad to hear it.

Yes, it started immediately with the cleaned/rebuilt carb. I, too, was glad to hear it. :) :) :)

Every used cub cadet I adopt needs a head gasket too.

Besides the...

Points cleaned
Gas tank flushed, New gas
Carb cleaned
Air filter replaced

I've have nearly brand new cub cadets parked for decades because of bad gas.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
