Farmall Cub

Hey all, my 1970 27's PTO has given out. I played with it a little and see that all I need is what I believe is a thrust button. Here is the scenario:

The blades stay engaged all of the time whether the handle is engaged or disengaged. When disengaging the PTO, the arm that pushes the thrust button into the pressure plates just rubs (wearing into the pressure plates). I see something was there and think it was a thrust button but need confirmation. If this is correct, does anybody know where I can purchase a replacement? My Google results came up dry.

Cub Cadet or Case/IH dealership. Should have the button in stock.

There are two "wear buttons" on a manual PTO clutch. One goes on the actuator lever (473483-R1) the other goes on the clutch itself (473477-R2). Both should be available from IH/Case and they're available lots of places on the web along with anything else you should need for an engine driven PTO. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I just got my hands on the thrust button for $5. I think thats all I need but in looking at the contact point between the newly installed thrust button and the one in the clutch, is the one in the clutch supposed to be almost pointed?

No. Back to the dealership. This time pick up a kit for your pto clutch. Might get by with just the button. But since you will have the pto clutch apart, might as well renew it.

Dang. Well I didn't plan on taking it apart. Wonder how involved that is and if it's over my head... looks like I'll be plaguing the search options.

There are a couple of "how to" videos on youtube. Just type in "Cub Cadet PTO Repair", a couple of them are not helpful. It'll be easy to see which are and which aren't.

It's been years since I rebuilt a Cub Cadet pto. Just looked up the price of a kit and some parts on the internet. Parts prices makes a good argument for purchasing a parts CC tractor.

If you purchase a kit or some replacement parts, be sure you obtain a gauge, or that the gauge is included in the kit, for setting up the fingers.
