1960 Cadet Question

Hi - Passing some time here while Dad gets his Pacemaker installed today.

My old Cub Cadet is my next project. I know that the rear axle housings on both sides are worn so badly that Dad shimmed them with hardwood bushing in the 1970's. Are those castings, left and right still available? Perhaps, I'll have to have them sleeved?

Just can't stop thinking about my tracotor projects.

Ken

Ken,

First, I hope all goes well with Dad!

The axle tubes are available used pretty reasonable, think a pair was like $20 on eBay. I may not be following your question properly, but the outer axle tubes on an Original ("O") have a replaceable bushing on the outside:
IH-376160-R1 Bushing, Rear Axle Carrier
And a seal on the inside, it is a pretty simple set-up.

You are going to have fun when you dig into it, will seem like a breeze after dealing with your Cub! :big afro:

Oh, your CCO is likely a 61, believe we identified it in a prior post, but they didn't start making until '61.

Good luck,

Thanks for the best wishes for ol'dad. You are correct on the 61 - with a serial number of 16509.....Don't have my details on my iPad - made a guess. When I dig the Cadet out of our Magic Barn, this one of the first things I will check. The last time I saw that part of this tractor was in about 1971....I was 14 and had Girls - Not Tractors on my mind :D!

Thanks Cecil, if you can hold on to them until the magic barn fully discloses the mysteries within. Was just speaking with Dad about it - he's guessing he didn't have the money in the early 70's to fix it correctly so he used the oak shims.
