One of my 147 mower decks has a liittle more play in the bearings than i would like. Is there a way to adjust or shim them up a little.

Short answer is Yes. But you need to know your deck number. Look up the exploded parts diagrams for your deck and print out with the part numbers.

The answer may be as simple as adding a flat washer under the lock washer and nut on top of the spindle.

If this deck was previously owned, suggest disassembling each spindle and check for missing, damaged, or misplaced parts. Common occurrence from my experience. Also found different style spindles on same deck. Even found a spindle where someone had hack sawed a piece of black pipe to use as a spacer.

Also, you need to check the play in the bearing with the blades attached and tightened down. On most mower spindles, if you remove the blade, it releases pressure on the spindle and some play in the bearing is apparent. Given the age of that deck though, I would probably suggest tearing them apart and going through them.

I tighten up the nut or bolt were the zerk fitting is first or at least check it. I find some loose. Make sure you grease the zerks too.
