Rear end swap

Postby Chevyguy » Sat Nov 03, 2012 6:48 pm

Anybody out there know if a 3 speed tranny and rear axle from a narrow frame Cub Cadet will fit a wide frame model - without any modifications?

The differential housing swap out, no problem. You'll need your axle tubes from the wide frame, to bolt onto the narrow frame differential. The only limiting factor is the internal or external brakes. Most of the wide frame CC tractors had external brakes (calipers and disks out on the axle tubes). Some of the narrow frame tractors had internal brakes, so this would not work in a wide frame tractor (well, not easily).

I have an 86 (wide frame Cub Cadet that has a comeplete rear end out of a 72 Cub Cadet. The only thing I had to change was the gear shifter. If your wide frame Cub Cadet is a manual trans Cub Cadet it should be easy to do change. I went frome disc brakes to an internal brake set up. The rod that goes between the brake lever and clutch/brake pedal arm may be a different length to the one in your wide frame Cub Cadet. I used the one that came the 72 rear end.
