Hi everyone I'm new to the Cadet, this is the first one that I've worked on, I was told it is a 1961, its 7 HP and has oil bath, just wanting to get the right color paint for it, is it Federal yellow same as the regular Cubs, and the white or cream the same also? someone point me in the right direction I'm sure I could find the PPG paint code for it on here somewhere :? Thanks Mike

Mike,

It sounds like you have a nice Original, the oil bath air cleaner gets replaced, it is a good addition, what is the serial number on the CC? I have found the IH Cadets to be well built machines and fun to work on, but watch out, they are addictive and don't take up much space! There are three "shades" of white used, this should give you the info you are looking for:

Cubcadetcollectors.com has been called our "brother site", it has a ton of information and a bunch of great members (many are members here as well).

Good luck,

OOPS forgot about member access issues... I would take a quick minute and join that site, well worth surfing around! Somewhere I got a good paint code reference chart, may have been from another site but it shows PPG, DuPont and Martin Senour in addition to the IH codes. The yellow for the O is IH 483 and PPG is 81518, the white is IH 901 and is NLA from IH, the PPG is 8665

I was curious about the Cadet serial number, it is stamped on the right side of the reduction gear housing on the O.

Good luck,

Do you know a good place to find decals for it?

Mike,

Hey, just winging it by what I have picked up, hope I am leading you the right direction, I am sure Paul Bell, GItractorman (Bill D.) or others far more knowledgeable than I will jump in at some point.

The link I attempted to send you to lay out the changes by year, serial number and model numbers. (again suggest you join and do some surfing, there is a wealth of info there!) White went from the IH 901 to IH 902 in Nov. of '67 until Feb. of '71 when they switched to 935 (to present). So, all three whites were used during the 60-70 timeframe you asked about. When you see them side by side you can tell the difference in the three, but one at a time is harder for the average guy to spot a difference. The PPG code for the IH 902 White is 90592, and the IH 935 is 91607. Confused yet? :?

Sorry, "O" is short for "Original", what most people refer to the first Cub Cadet model.

On the decals, I picked some up at the Portland, IN show from the Maple Hunter booth, they are preferred by many on this and other forums. I am a long way off from having things ready to use them. Search this forum, there should be a contact, it comes up frequently.

Waiting on a picture or two....

Yea, David's got you covered for the paint colors. 901 was the color of the Original, and it's pretty darn close to the 935 white. It actually has more of an olive tint to it when you compare it to 935 white, but you would never know it unless you had the two colors right next to each other. 902 white was only used for two series of Cadets, the 1x4/1x5 series, and the 1x6/1x7 series. It is more "white" than the other two, and again, hard to tell unless it is right next to the others. 935 white is a bit creamy colored, but is by far the most popular of the 3 colors.

Personally, I have just used 935 white for all of my tractor restorations regardless of the year, except for one 124 that I restored. I actually did not re-paint the hood, as it cleaned up really nice, so I did order the 902 white for the wheels and mower deck so they would all match.

Here is the first 124 that I restored, with the original hood and wheels/mower deck that I painted 902 white to match the hood:

Here is the second 124 that I restored a few years later, where I painted everything with 935 white:

As you can see, almost impossible to tell the difference.

Also, the first tractor has the original decals on it that came from the factory. The second tractor, with the 935 white, has reproduction decals from Maple Hunter. I definitely recommend them. Very high quality and great reproductions. Do me a favor though, use a reproduction of the original decal, and NOT the one that Cub Cadet sells now:

Here is a set from Maple Hunter for $28.00: Image

There are others floating around that the "International" script is just all wrong. Don't grab those, they look really awful. The ones from Maple Hunter are the way to go.
