Belt for 104

Does anybody know the belt size for Cub Cadet 104, from the pulley on the front of the engine, all the way to the 90 degree pto gearbox? See picture below. I called Messick's today and the guy said he can't find it, so before I measure I thought I'd ask here.

I know those long belts are $$$. I'd hate to get the wrong size. If it chews up any belts, I'd consider making an invention that would convert it to 2 belts which would be shorter and could be easily purchased from any industrial supplier.

This tractor will be dedicated to roto-tilling. And maybe snow-blowing walkways in the winter.

P.S. I posted last week about putting an engine on the tiller itself. But seems this Cadet runs great and has lots of power. So a change of mind. Just don't want to be chewing up expensive belts.

The original part number for the belt was 487 045 R2. If it has changed a dealer should be able to cross that number to the new number.

Turns out, that number from Paul B. is a valid IH number. I have one on the way, and as soon as I get it, I will order a spare from a website.

Need a long belt for a cub 125 but don't know which one to buy. My serial number for the tractor is 279030. My serial number for the tiller is model 2 serial 3130283u008943. I can not find the exact match with the serial numbers and can't afford to buy the wrong belt. I did look at the cubcadet chart but can't find my serial numbers cross referenced to exact size for serial numbers and model 2 tiller. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are charts on the internet. They generally provide the belt size by the tractor and mower deck model number.

All else fails, set the idlers at their highest level. 3/8" diameter rope and loop the rope around the PTO, idler pulleys and the mower deck pulley. Measure, this will give you the length of belt needed.

If you have the old belts, take them into the auto parts store.

Wowzii,
The belts for the 104, 105, 124, 125 would all be the same. I would go in to a dealer with the numbers provided above and see what they come up with. They will let you return belts if unused, so tell them what you're doing and see If they have 2 options, buy both, then keep the best fit of the two.

Thank you for posting this. I have looked at this but must be stupid. If my model is a model 2 do I use the number associated with that even though the serial numbers do not match up? Sorry, brand new owner.

Wowzii,
your tractor, is a "Narrow Frame" cub cadet. NF in the chart above. I would go with the belt listed for the 1/1A tiller, even though you have a model 2 tiller. The important thing is the pulley size and length. The narrow frame CCs used 3/8" width belts and pulleys, and the later Wide Frame tractors used 7/16" belts and pulleys. The Model 2 tiller didn't come out until the wide frame tractors were out in the 1970s, so someone has put a newer tiller on your older Cadet. It will still work, but that's why you're having trouble determining the belt. Honestly, I would get both belts, the one for the Model 1 tiller and the one for the Model 2 tiller, and see which one works best, then take the other back. I'll bet that the bottom pulley on your angle drive assembly is made for a 7/16" belt, but the 3/8" belt should still work in it. However, it's unlikely that the 7/16" belt will work on your front mule drive pulleys or the PTO clutch pulley on the tractor, because the V in the pulleys will be too narrow. So, You're likely going to need the 3/8" belt.
