weak battery?I bought a LTX 1045 less than a year ago. From day one, it always had a hard time cranking over, like the battery was weak. A few days ago, It slowly cranked over and stated the last time I used it. I shut it off to go get a beer half way through cutting the grass, came back and turned the key and, click, wouldn't turn over. Put the charger on it, charged it up, and it unwillingly started. Finished the grass, took it and put a full charge on it and it slowly cranked over and started. I used this mower about 7 times so far. I find it hard to believe that the battery would be shot allready. ANY ideas out there?
Re: weak battery?Mine too. They are bout like any other mtd mower, hard to start when hot. They ain't like the old cadets. But I still use it and it does a good quick job. Don't believe it is my battery.

Re: weak battery?I would not be suprised. MTD has gone to installing basically the cheapest parts they can, on their cheapest equipment, so they can sell at Home Depot and Lowes, less than the compeditors. A lot of true Lawn & Garden dealers have gotten to the point where they do not even stock those machines because they are so much trouble. A LOT of problems with the crank shaft key shearing off in the flywheel, right out of the crate, first time starting. Many more problems with the plastic wheel bearings and transmissions. The battery in the 1000 series tractor is the least expensive battery they could find, probably made in China. If it sat through a winter (not necessarily at your house) it's probably junk. Go to Wal Mart and pick up their higher cranking amp battery (I think it's 960cca, vs 450cca probably in yours) for $29.00, it's your best bet for the money. Next winter, make sure to take the battery out of the tractor and store it somewhere where it will not freeze, and it will last longer.
