Confess I was just trying to get advice and ideas on finding a 10-32 helicoil because local shops had none. Cub forum gets a LOT more views so I kept it general. Now that Bigdog posted an idea that got a lot of positive response, I posted the specific application-for the cadet kohler carb. Would like to try it, but still cannot fully figure out the purpose of tapping/loctite in a 1/4-20 bolt. Not even familiar if the F-cub used a 10-32 as I had never had to helicoil one

Cricket - sometimes it is just better to ask the question you really want answered. What I am talking about is drilling and tapping the existing hole for 1/4 - 20 (providing there is enough metal to support doing that. Then, thread a 1/4 - 20 bolt or machine screw into place in the hole with loctite to hold it in place. Cut the head off flush with the surface. (In your case - probably cut off both ends.) That leaves you a plugged hole. Drilling and tapping the center of the 1/4 - 20 stud for 10 - 32 threads results in the same thing as using a helicoil except you don't have to buy special drills and taps to do the job.

Cricket: I totally missed that you were talking about a Cub Cadet. Crickets wrote:I posted the specific application-for the cadet kohler carb.
It is possible most of us, I know I was assuming that you were talking about the radiator support holes at the bolster on a regular Cub. There is enough meat there for BD's idea to work nicely. However .......... since you are talking about a Kohler carb this changes the whole scenario. There probably isn't much extra metal around where you need to repair so the helicoil may probably be the only viable fix there is. If so, then you need to get a proper STI tap, the correct sized drill bit and yes the inserts and insertion tool. So, again the best thing to do is either get one locally or order one off of which is where I have found the best deals on Helicoil sets. I still get commercial wholesale pricing at my local specialty fastener shop and ebay is cheaper.

Most post asked about finding 10/32 helicoil inserts in general. Locally I could not, and all I wanted to know was if that happened to be the case n places where other cubbers were to who needed this type of insert.
Thanks for the info.
