My hardware store only had the coarse thread 10/24.
Called a Local Cadet small engine shop thinking they should have those on hand, but they do not.

Any other places I should try to find one?

It seems like the sites on Google want to sell the whole kit for about $30. Was hoping just to get a few inserts for a few $. I already have a deluxe tap and die kit so I do need need to buy more taps!

You might also try an auto parts store or Fastenal if you have one close by. You need a special tap (STI) for the inserts, a standard tap won't work with a heli-coil.

You can buy just the inserts from McMaster-Carr

You need the right tap for them, as Bob McCarty, mentioned above. Tap must match the external threads on the helicoil. Ed

Drill and tap the holes for 1/4 - 20. Then thread in a 1/4 - 20 bolt with loctite. Cut off the head and then drill the remaining stud for 10-32 and tap it. This will give you a bushing with adquate thickness for strength and will also be undetectable when in use.

Well I searched :eBay: for 10-32 helicoil inserts and they are available. However Bob makes a good point. STI taps are NOT regular taps and you will have to buy a complete set if you want to helicoil. Here are a bunch on ebay - 10-32 Helicoil. I watch ebay for good deals on the different sets that I do not own yet and I am always buying a set at a good price. Sometimes 2 so I can make a bottoming tap when needed :D

Do a little looking at the thread repair insert section at McMaster Carr. They have several types of inserts, I like the locking style, but they require drilling & tapping to 5/16 - 18 for the thin wall version. It makes a very good repair, if you have the room for the bigger hole. I like the fact that you don't need a special tap for them.

Wholesale Tool offers inserts and taps, both Helicoil and other makers.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around this tip Bigdog suggested. The 10-32 stripped hole is on a carb body for the 241A Kohler carb where the air intake bolts to. There is some material around the hole to drill into, the hole is not right at the edge of the carb.

As I followed this thread I was under the impression this was a regular Cub. Now that I see Kohler pop up and I reread the first post, I believe it is a Cadet. Maybe I was confused by it being ibn the Cub forum instead of the Cadet forum.

If this is for the sheet metal air filter mounting plate then you could tap 1/4 inch if there is enough metal on the carb then drill the airfilter plate holes slightly larger. To keep it at 10/32 then need to use a thread repair kit. Taping then trying to center drill a 1/4 inch bolt seems hard to do unless you have a lathe. The minor diameter of the 1/4 inch screw may be less than the major diameter of the #10 screw. If so, then dust.
