I got this deck for $50 with a cracked castiron nose piece. I welded it(castiron) and the deck gives me all different heights when i mow with it. Since i have a pile of he 38'' and 42'' decks sitting here i'm thinking of maybe pulling a set of roller bearing spindles and replacing the sealed bearing spindles. Whatca think??

Is it giving you any trouble now??
I take the part that it" gives" you all different heights in the good sense that you can adjust it to the height you want and that is what it cuts. Not that the height wanders to all different heights as you cut.

I think the bearings are way more loose than i can feel them to be. But maybe the deck could be maybe bending too i'm not sure yet i need to look closer at it. I'm getting a crew cut from all three blades at three different heights i need to figure out whats wrong with it. Its missing all the baffles too. Maybe the baffles stiffin the deck from flexing? Bill,
It's more likely that one of the blades is missing one of the fibre disk washers under it, or someone has put an extra washer or two under some of the blades. I've seen it happne before, lots of times actually. It's unlikely that the deck is flexing or bending. The baffles don't contribute anything to the deck, even when they were new, other than helping get the grass to go in a certain direction once it is cut.
