I am having some timing issues with a K301 in a 122. I was told to adjust the valves and see if it helped. Can someone explain the process to me please?

Go to the Kohler's engine site and download the K-series manuals(free). I couldn't find a link in the Manual's section. You can also check ACR(Auto Compression Release) some are adjustable so don't mess with it if it isn't.

This may help. The valves are adjusted through the breather cover. Pull the cover off and you will can get to the valves to adjust them. It's about like adjusting the valves on a F-Cub. Also make sure you put the breather back together the way it comes off.

K301 valve stem clearance.
Intake cold: .008/.010
Exhaust cold: .017/.020

Ignition timing issues. From Kohler manual - - -Points should just begin to break as the S or SP mark appears in the center of the timing sight hole. Point gap .020. Point gap can vary from .018 to .022 to achieve smoothest running.

My input: You can static time the engine same as the FCub. Since there is no distributor to rotate, the ignition timing is adjusted by the size of the point gap.

Pony Master Before working on the valves I would try this. Solved a few problems for me and only takes a few minutes. Click on the link from Matt G http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/show ... php?t=4405 Hope it helps Grump
