Farmall Cub

Cub Cadet 1200 with a Kohler K301AQS engine. Spec 47541d.

Looking from the front of the engine, which way is the rotation of the crankshaft? Yeah, this is a loaded question.

Right now, mine is buttoned up with all the side covers, front grill, front housing and hood on it. I cannot possibly see the PTO nor the front of the engine to see the rotation.

I'm thinking about purchasing a hydraulic pump and installing it on this tractor. Gotta have more fun you know!

I'm looking at several different pump options from Surplus Center and they have pumps available in CW & CCW rotation. So, I need to know what the rotation of the engine is from the PTO side.

BTW, if someone has ideas of a hydraulic pump to run from the front of the engine, I'm wide open for ideas. This includes possibly using a power steering automobile style pump too.

Yeah, we had a record snow fall for the holidays in my area. Power stuff too. I used both the Farmall Cub and Cub cadet for cleaning some stuff up.

Loads of fun. (Pun not intended).

If you stand in front of the tractor and look at the engine, all the single cylinder "K" series Kohlers in Cub Cadets turn CCW since the tractor is driven off the flywheel end of the engine and not the PTO end.

Thanks Paul. I thought it might be since I remembered reading where the Farmall Cub & Cub Cadet engines turn in the opposite direction, but I couldn't remember which was which.

Now, on to the research and hopefully goodies!

You know. I have seen people use the pulley on the flywheel adapter side of the engine on the older cadets to run hydraulic pumps. Positioned the hydro pump just up to the side of the engine. This was actually a bolt-on option for hydraulic lift on the older cadets. However, I'm not sure if the pulley was still used on the 1000 series tractor.

Depending on what flywheel cup you can get your hands on, you could use the set up you are talking about. Unfortunately for me, my flywheel cup was messed up right after the engine rebuild. When I purchased a new one, the groove for the v-belt was no longer there - it is just a flat piece of metal now.

Yes, it made the flywheel cup stronger, but it took away a possible option for adding hydraulics. There was an add on kit for the 102, 105 series of Cub Cadet that did exactly what you are talking about. I don't have that equipment, nor do I have the open space the narrow frames had with my side covers on.

This or maybe another model should give me plenty of ummmmph for hydraulic pressure.

Now, add a dual spool valve, pulley for the pump, v-belt to the existing PTO, lines and a couple of hydraulic cylinders, fluid reservoir, and I now have hydraulics along with a manual gear drive transmission. A la Farmall Cub so to speak.

Trying to keep it as simple as possible. It leaves some of the gotchas out.

I already have the Cessna Dual Spool valve, so the rest shouldn't be all that hard to come up with. If I can get this to come out like I envision it, I'll have a tank and a half straight drive Cub Cadet with hydraulics.

I don't plan on using the Cub Cadet for any mowing, just hard lifting work. The Simplicity will do all the mowing except for the occasional use of the Farmall Cub.

Any other ideas from the group are more than welcome. This is something I'm dreaming of making happen.

Used to have a Johnson Loader for a Cub Cadet. The hydraulic pump was mounted above the engine on the front casting. Hydraulic pump was belt driven from the Cadet's PTO pulley.

I sure wish you had photos of that setup. It would be a great help to me right now. I'm trying my best to get ideas of how to make this work. I know it can be done as I've seen a few Cub Cadets and even Case tractors with similar set ups.
