Steering Wheel on a 109

Postby dhermesc » Mon Oct 29, 2007 4:41 pm

The steering wheels from what other cub models will fit on my 109?

Will a steering wheel from a 1450 or 882 work?

If you just want a steering wheel that will fit on the shaft, any of the IH built and some of the Cub Cadet Corp wheels will fit. Yes, the wheel from a 1450 will fit, and will be like, or dished similar to, the original wheel. If you want a wheel that is correct for the tractor, the wheels from a 86, 108, 109, 128, 129, 149, 169 and the early 800, 1000, 1200, 1250, 1450, 1650 would be correct. The later versions of the 1000-1650 had a different center, but will fit.

All I want is a decent steering wheel with a center cap that won't leave my hands black for a week after using - the current one accomplishes neither.

The part about leaving your hands black for a week can be fixed. Wipe it off with a cleaning solvent such as lacquer thinner or metal prep and paint it using a spray can. I use Valspar, but Krylon or Rustoleum will work, but the Rustoleum will take awhile to dry. If the wheel is cleaned good, the paint will stick, end the black hands, and last another 25 years. You can find the replacement metal foil center covers on ebay.
