Whats a 104 worth?
What do you think a 104 with creeper gear mower deck and snowblower is worth? The 104 looks great, missing nothing, same owner 37 years always garaged and presently it is still used weekly to cut the grass.

It is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it to make it yours, and what ever he is willing to take for it to make it yours...
as for a number.. that is always the hard part. Try to be fair without insulting the current owner and not too much to break the bank.. a juggling act for sure..

If he says he doesn't know.. boy, you are then in a pickle cause the starting price can actually determine whether a deal is made or not that is fair.. too low and he stops right there, too high and it costs you too much.
Personally, I would love to get the DEAL Gord got.. so let's say it was around $300.00 to $400.00US and that leaves a bit of jiggle room.... Gord's is a 108 btw.. not sure of the size difference right off.
But, I would imagine a good starting bid might be around $250.00US ????
Looking at Gord's 108 and my JD111, I am not sure who has the better deal.. him or me... the 108 sure is constructed a heck of a lot better..

The creeper gear alone is worth about $200.00 If the tractor is as you say it is & the 10 h.p. Kohler engine is in GREAT shape and the mowing deck isn't rusted out...probably $450.00 to $500.00 is a FAIR WIN-WIN Price
As an example...a 108 in GREAT condition without the creeper gear went for only $337.00 on Ebay last week

I'd be very happy to get it for 250- 400 , this unit is sharp clean and well taken care of by the original owner, however he says it's worn and loose at all points, sure didn't look that way to me . I am clueless on what these Cadets are worth but in the classifieds here in N.Y. I have seen vintage Cadets listed as high as 2,500 thats way high imop, but maybe there are buyers at that range.
Country is the creeper an actual gear box or is it belts and pulleys?
This Cadet had the creeper installed after the frst year that the owner had it, I like the idea of a creeper gear .

Hey Jack...The Cub Cadet Creeper Gear is a seperate gear box (no belts or pulleys) that is interconnected to the driveshaft. When you engage it with it's lever, you can run the Cub Cadet in Low Range through all the drive gears (especially helpful in snow plowing, or plowing a garden for the first time).
As to Cub Cadets in your area going for as high as $2500.00...That's Just CRAZY They better have dual wheels, all the options (Grote tail light; 3 pint hitch with sleeve hitch;headlights;creeper gear; and a bunch of attachments ). The BEST Cub Cadet that I ever saw personnally was flawlessly painted, rebuilt Kohler engine and had all the bells & whistles, NEW tires all around, DUAL REAR TIRES (plus an extra set of front & rear AG tires on wheels) with a #1 IH restored dump cart... AND SOLD FOR $1300.00

Country, I am getting Cadetidiss bad, know that I know its a real creeper gear box I want it more . Locally at http://www.wantaddigest.com (do a seach with the word CUB) there is a 147 nice looker 3 impliments for 975 and right be low it is a 108 looing kinda rough 2 impliments for 700. That 2,500 dollar Cadet may actually have been 1,500 now that I think about it , anyway it was a restored original with oil bath air cleaner and just a mower deck

Country it will be easy to steer clear of those in the want ads since my pockets arnt that deep, I got my sight set on the 104I think the owner will want a fair price and not an over inflated price./
Eugene I agree the hydro is a good capable unit but I just have to have gears , there s just something about gears that appeals to me. Would the 104 be a narrow frame?
ScottyD nice Original , I like that style better than the 104 around my area I think the early Cadets are kinda rare.

Initial condition determines everything- for me as far as price and even if it's something I want to buy. Something preserved in the best original condition from the purchase is going to be without a doubt the easiest and least expensive tractor to restore if that is the new owner's desire.
Yes, getting something for a song is nice- but maybe not so if the machine singing songs will cost much more to refurbish or restore than the same tractor costing a few more bucks that is in clean unmolested condition from the get-go.
This is just from the money standpoint of course. If one truly enjoys the hobby and likes tackling full restoration projects, than thay can buy anything that meets their desires.
My guess- the clean, still operating weekly 104 that has always been garaged should fetch $400-500, and that would be a fair price for what I would consider a, "sweetie," in excellent maintained shape.
