Guess I should have paid more attention to it when I was looking at it. It does appear to havea Cub transmission. Did the originals have a Kohler, if so you could have an original Cub Cadet.!

Hi Scotty D.
Congradulations!!
You have a Cub Cadet...when it was built they were not given a model number, etc., they were simply called 'Cub Cadet'. Nowdays, they are referred to as an 'Original'.
The serial number will be stamped into the cast iron 'reduction housing' on the right side (the numbers will be stamped vertically). The reduction housing is the piece bolted between the frame, and the transaxle. You might have to scratch at the old paint/rust to see the numbers...NOTE: the serial numbers are stamped -IN-,...numbers that are 'raised' are either part numbers or casting codes.....
Post the serial number, and we can give you the model year, and even the month it was built
I can promise you that it was built no later than mid 1963

Now that looks like a restoration project to sink your teeth into Someone sure put a lot of time and effort into building that gnarly exhaust system for her! Should be a nice ride once you get her cleaned up and painted, and back to "original" condition- have fun

Hey Scotty...Yes, you've got a Cub Cadet "Original" . From the photos looks like you're missin' a few parts though: The pan seat...the IH logo for the front grill...the chrome hood ornament...and the oil bath air cleaner for the 7 h.p. Kohler engine. The good news is you've got an early one...and all the other parts are readily available as you go along. Is the engine running? ENJOY IT SCOTTY and take a lot of BEFORE & AFTER pixs as you go through the process of restorin' her

The FUN thing is on something that isn't all original is you can be creative! I was even creative where I wanted to be on my 682 if it involved making the tractor operational or cosmetically better- who agrees the grille emblems on the '82's were too small and sucked? I drilled one small hole in the air perf and put on a GOOD metal emblem from a CC original, and it's just so much better looking! Compare my Honda GX610 to the old, tired Kohler KT17 engine-- simply no comparison
Plannning a restore/refurbish project for lawn and garden tractors often has more roads one can choose than farm tractors. You don't have to worry so much about psycho-originality unless going for pure show- where in fact many of these small garden tractors can still work and are still are called on to do so- a bit of imagination can make a winner all around for show and GO!
