Cub Cadet 44C mower deck modification

Postby Fordlords » Tue Apr 11, 2006 5:13 pm

I was test running my freshly rebuilt 44C deck today, it has all factory new workings, spindles, pulleys, fasteners etc. I test ran it with the top cover off, and the belt for the spindles uses a spring loaded tension pulley. I noticed with it running that although it worked fine, the belt looked to flap around a but in spots more than I like to see. It is a new belt. By using a flat washer underneath the tension mechanism, I deleted the spring loading and could then use the mounting bolt underneath to hand tension the belt (not real tight, but snugly) and tightly lock it down making basically a manual tensioner. I got to say this makes the belt track 100% better, it holds more tension, and no flapping which will wear the belt out or cause it to slip. I just figure I’ll re-tension it every year when I sharpen the blades, and be good to go. Test mowed with it, absolutely quiet and beautiful, other with 44C’s might want to give this one a try.

I had a similar situation on my 50C. I found that the Shoulder Bolt and Tension Arm had worn and egg shaped out. Once I had new parts, the wobbling stopped and belt ran true.
