149 Cub Cadet quality?

Is a 149 Cub Cadet a good little tractor and if so what should a fellow pay for one running with clutch problems. Red

Red, I have a 149 Cub Cadet. I still have some work to do on the hydraulics, but it seems like a solid little tractor. Here is a link to one that recently sold on ebay for $465.00.

A 149 is normally a very good Cub Cadet (and in my opinion one of the best ones IH built), but it has a hydrostatic transmission and therefore does not have a clutch, unless you are talking about the PTO clutch for the mower deck. They have a 14 hp K 321 Kohler engine, and hydraulic lift for the deck. Price depends on condition and equipment (rear lift, deck - 38", 44", or 50", etc), and can range from $225 or so for a rough one, to $500-$600 or more for a very nice one. The Sunstrand hydros are about bullet proof if the fluid and filter are kept changed, although there can be some wear to the damper springs/trunion plate that would require some repair. Normally if there is a problem in that area, the tractor will speed up going down hill, and slow up going up hill, and that applies to all IH built Cub Cadets with the Sunstrand Corp (now Sauer-Danfoss Co.) hydrostatic transmision.
