REMOVING THE ROCKSHAFT -LIFT ASSEMBLY

Postby Bill Pearson » Sun Jul 22, 2018 5:15 pm

Hopfully You folks can shed some light on this one 1987 1872 cub cadet. The pins on the arms of the rockshaft are pretty worn, plus the weld is broken for the arm that the adjusting cam for a pre set blade height, so i decided to get busy and take it apart so I can weld it up. Best I can see is there are 2 roll pins, knocked them out, took the fender or body off it, just seemed easier, droped springs and pins off brake petals, disconected the hydro,, should be ez breezy. Ive soaked it with Krol oil, pounded, beat that bad boy. Looks to me its a shaft inside the rockshaft, hammer it out towards the right side of the tractor. Even tried a snap on air chisel, cant get it to move... What am i missing ?

First of, go on Cub Cadets website and look up the lift assembly to see how it goes together. If I remember correctly, there are two shafts, left and right, that fit inside each other to make the single rock shaft. That could be what is hanging you up.
