Well with the warmer weather I have finally put away the wood working tools and ready to start back in on some wrenching. I helped a buddy find a mower and he ended bringing home a 1450, 782, 3 decks, 2 snow blowers, a push blade, power bagger and a tiller. He said he knew I shouldn't have come to look the tractors over for him.
He ended up talking me into buying the 1450 off of him so I'm going to have my son start mowing with that since it is in great shape and I'm going to take my time doing the 123 up. 1450 has the gear box for the tiller on it so I have to remove that. The 782 is a ccc model so it has the aluminum rear end. Am I going to have any troubles getting the gear box for the 1a tiller mounted to that rear end? The 782 has the sleeve hitch lift in the back not the ccc 3 point. So I'm hoping this a pretty easy swap.
The 782 was just rebuilt has about an hour and 1/2 on the rebuild, and the 1450 received a paint job a few years back and hasn't seen much action since. I had my son running the 1450 around and he spent about a half hour running circles around the yard. Only issue I noticed was when he ran out of gas. So I plan on mounting the deck off of my 108 onto the 1450, since the 108 has pretty much inherited the job of plowing and driveway grading, plus I think I'd prefer the smaller deck on the 1450 anyway.
So after removing the gear box I"ll change the fluids in the 1450 and get her ready to start mowing this summer.

I can't really answer your questions, but those are good looking CCs.

I believe you'll be ok mounting the drive for the tiller on the 782. The initial aluminum rear ends were identical copies of the cast iron rear ends, so if I remember right, the bolt pattern for the rear cover is identical as well. It wasn't until later in the 1990s that they switched the rear ends.

However, having said that, you might want to be extra cautious when mounting it, not to bottom out the bolts and strip the aluminum casing, and 2, not to over torque the bolts and strip the aluminum casing. I think the aluminum should be strong enough to handle the tiller but I'd definitely be more cautious with it than I would if it was on a cast iron CC rear end. The tiller will definitely bounce around quite a bit, especially in clay or rocky soil, so I'd just be cautious. If you hit a tree root, it will nearly throw you off the tractor, so that tiller puts a lot of force on the rear end of the tractor!

Otherwise, nice finds!!

Added another, another, another it’s a never ending story. These are sitting everywhere we look. My tiller is on my cc 100 with the creeper. When it jams the pto clutch will slip. If it doesn’t the pto clutch isn’t set right. When breaking new ground or sod I make shallow runs first. On the last pass the tiller is set as deep as it can go. I go slow with the cadet when tilling.

I hate to pass these cadets up if there priced right.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Well hopefully I can get after it this weekend. Ended up painting the hutch/cabinet I built for the missus so I could get that in the house and had to get the calf hutches set up so we could get our calves this week.
Now that I have my chores done I should be able to get the gear box off of the 1450 and change the fluids in it and the deck off of the 108 mounted. I need to get the deck mounted on the 2042 as well grass is starting to look green. Then I'll be bringing in my buddies 782 and getting that gear box mounted. Glad to hear the original aluminum rear ends were the same, I was starting to be afraid that was going to take some "ingenuity". Once we get that done I can start ripping back into the 123, since it has sat patiently all winter. And I'm thinking I'm going to give her a more thorough go over, since I have the 1450 to take up the mowing job for her this year.
I know what you mean about and another and another... I still find myself cruising craigslist two or three times a day looking for the next bargain...
