Thought I would tidy up the Cub Book of Knowledge some. So I played with the 1/16th Scale section. Here are the links..

Let me know what you think, or if you have other information that will help flesh out the knowledge base, it would be appreciated.

Ken are there anymore new models appearing soon? Thanks. Oh barn doors are still froze solid, so I cannot get the measurements yet for the C-2. Couple more weeks and I should be able to.

It is my knowledge that he only sells them at the toy conventions. So if you can find them elsewhere be prepaid to spend $200-$850 for one of those jems. I found these pics on Autumn Auctions and the prices scared me right away. I actually found one that was on ebay slightly damaged then when it got to my place it looked like it was run over and over. I was very displeased that is why I started looking for the builder and ended up at the auctions. I want to get a hold of him to see if he can repair it. Maybe.

I still can't find out anything on that chrome cub. Was it made like that or did someone chrome it ?

Robert

It was purchased off of eBay the owner said that his father received it from IH for something weather it was for sales or not I am not sure. But our very own Ralph now owns it, maybe he can tell us some more about it.

Hello, for the Ertl line up, what is the difference between 653 Do, 653 1991 special edition, and 14339 ?

Robert:

I am not all that sure, but I am going to give it a shot. I have for sure 2 of the 3 items listed right here in front of me.

Difference between the 3 issues:

  1. 14339 - Side of Touch Control Resevoir - has IH Yellow rivet
653 - Side of Touch Control Resevoir - has silver rivet
653 Special Edition - Side of Touch Control Resevoir - has silver rivet

  2. 143339 - This is an ERTL Britains edition where the others are simply ERTL. New packaging and of course the History Panel has been shortened and not near as complete. IMHO this is a big loss... but that is just a personal opinion.

  3. 653 is the 1991 Special Edition series and has the words "1991 Edition" cast into the side of the torque tube.

653 DO is the original release and does not have the "1991 Edition" cast into the torque tube.

Those appear to be the major differences.. it does take some looking to find them the first ime. I still have to find one more item and that is the 653DO.. it seems to be elusive. I had one purchased last April, but it is still somewhere in Purgatory between USPS and Canada Post. So until I can actually physically see one of these 653DO's lacking the 1991 Edition cast impression, I am not totally convinced. I am just wondering how many of these examples I will have to buy before I can actually find one.. as I said, it seems to be elusive.

I have all the red ones you have listed. I have a yellow with the short stripe, I have a yellow long stripe yellow rivet, and I have the Fox Fire edt. which has a silver rivet. Now is the Fox Fire edt. the same as the 653 DO ? I never bought the rest because I didn't want a bunch of duplicates, but your saying the 653 SE says it on the torque tube. Still don't know if thats significant enough to justify another dust collector. The chrome one I have room for if someone can convince Ralph to sell it to me, I did ask him once. I did bid up to $353.45 on that last one from Design Fabricators, plus three more a week before on E-Bay also, didn't win any of them. I do have a original ad for the Design Fabricator one from a 1947 Popular Mechanics magazine that I bought a while back.
