With that hood decal, and the fact they are calling it a McCormick FARMALL Cub, wouldn't that be from the 1963-64 era, and the last Farmall Cub before they became International Cubs in mid 1964 and were then painted yellow and white ? There were some painted red again in the late 70's, but didn't they have the long blue/black/white hood decal like #7 in the Ertl Cub series?
Yeah, it would have been alot more correct if they just called it an international and put the black stripe decal on it, with black grill, like the 78's and 79's. That's a 60's decal and most of those cubs were yellow. Brandon.

The decal does date this as a 1960 vintage, not a 1970's. You could order a Cub in red paint, so it is a "street legal" model. The selling price of $ 24-$25 is a tad high for this I think.....(but the cost of materials: zinc, oil, rubber, China labor, have all increased too).
I'm sure they had to use the 1960's decal as the 1970's blue stripe Cub had already been built in red (#7 in the set of 7 Cub toys) and you don't want to reissue an exact copy of a previous made toy. I plan to place an order for these after February 2nd....They won't be availible for delivery until June-July..... Cub Cadets....Engineered for people who know better!
The very first square-hoods in '63-'64 were definitely red, so this is a "correct" reproduction of the original, according to my understanding of Cub history.
Note the "white" grill. From '76 on, the grills were black, so this isn't a late '79 with the wrong decal.
The guys doing the '07 Red Power Roundup wanted to have a Cub for the official toy of the show. Knowing that Ertl hadn't included a flat-grill '63-'64 "Farmall" in their series of 7, they contacted Ertl specifically asking for this version. No point doing a yellow Cub with a blue stripe, its been done. Initially Ertl balked as they didn't believe this version of the tractor was ever built by IH. That seemed odd to me, given some of the toys they have built in the past. Anyway, Ertl finally want along with it and this toy is the result.
As some of you may have guessed by now, this is the reason I was looking for pictures of an original red, flat-grill Farmall a few months back (last March). There is one in the illustrations in the Parts Catalog but it is not a very good image and it looses quite a bit in black and white. Paul Bell supplied the pictures that were sent back to Chapter 17. I didn't want to say anything about it until it was a done deal.
Well it's a sharp toy and I'm sure I'll buy one at redpower for my bookcase. I just always think yellow cub when I see those decals, but that's just me.
