What's the longest "Ran when parked..." you've seen?

Postby Stanton » Mon Jan 21, 2019 1:32 pm

Came across this funny C*list ad for an old Farmall, sitting a foot deep in a flower bed for 25 years:

https://kansascity.craigslist.org/grd/d/independence-1930-farmall/6800233389.html

So, what's the longest time-span you've seen where someone states: "Ran when was parked..."?

Not sure if it runs or not...hmmmm, I just can't decide!

Seriously, this is about the longest time (25 years) mentioned in an ad I've seen that uses this phrase.

I know of some people who hadn't "ran" in longer than 25 years. They hardly even walk, except from their recliner to the fridge. :D

According to the PO, this one sat under a leanto shed for more than 30 years, it ran at some time (unknown) before it was put under the shed.

After lots of patience and effort. The engine was not stuck (several valves were).

Some pretty long times. Bet Stanton could make it look sharp again and run like a new one. Would be good for clearing thorn bush fields.
Interesting Stanton, Interesting.

Not listed for sale but could be had that has been sitting since about 1970. Engine is frozen or I might have it. Vern

1936 F 20 set for 30 years. Engine was free. Changed oil, fresh gas, cleaned mag points. Third turn of crank it fired and ran

few years back I picked up a 54 cub, owner said it had not run for 30 years, had no rear rims, they were completely rotted away and the wheel centers were sitting inside the tires, most everything was frozen solid except for the engine, why it turned I could not believe, even the carb was so rotten it was a mess, put a distributor and carb on and it fired right up, that engine is still running today in a customers tractor

My intention with this thread was to just have some fun sharing what we find in personal experiences and see on Cr*igslist or Eb*y ads when people say, "It ran ____ years ago" or "Ran when parked." Usually, those tractor don't run now, and that's the point. All tractors ran in the past. The question is: Do they run NOW?

So, to read your account of a Cub that actually RAN after 30 years is quite amazing! Thanks for sharing it.

This B is my dad's and mine, mostly his because he's footing the bill! 8) My great grandmother bought it used when she put her farm in the soil bank. Granddaddy ended up with it and he and my dad used it for years. The last time I heard it run was in the early 80s when I was probably 8-9. The gas and oil mixed in it, Granddaddy tried to use it, and though it didn't seize it came close so it was technically "running when parked." The vitals are at the machine shop and what you see here will be getting cleaned in the next few days. It's a basket case but it's also a family tractor so it must be saved!

PS It was all the Super A wanted to get onto the trailer! Even stripped down it is HEAVY. Then it tried to take my ramp with it. It will be getting the "correct" Roll-O-Matic pedestal swapped in, so I took advantage of the Bobcat to go ahead and get it cribbed up to swap. The next time I load it, I hope it will be under its own power!

I'm not sure what year your B is, but the Roll-O-Matic was an option that had to be ordered, when it came out in 1948. According to a 1951 price list, it added about $40 to the price of the tractor.
