1942 M - Restoration Project
Hi all - I'm starting slowly on our 1942 M. Thankfully it does NOT need the major work that Rex'48 did. The engine is solid no work required. I will need to split it and put in a transmission seal. The PTO seal is the easy one. It will probably be straight piped chrome (my son's choice). I've added a couple pix below as the starting point. The seat is the 1st thing I'm addressing. The pan is TOTALLY rusted, cracked as in unsafe. Parts for that are on order from Steiner.

You may be able to change the seal by removing the Lift-All pump and reaching in from the bottom.

Replaced a leaking tranny seal on my H a couple years ago, but it still leaks a little. Did it from below. Dropped the Lift-All and removed the tapered bolts, etc. Wasn't too bad. If you haven't already found it, get on RedPowerMagazine.com; lots of helpful advise on the big tractors. I had read somewhere to buy/install double seals since the new seal may ride where the old seal left a groove on the shaft and the new seals are thinner than the old ones. If I ever do that job again, will seriously consider doubling up my seals (if there's physical space).
