If you want cheaper, you should have gotten the Super M. Super MTA diesels are very collectable.

Sup[er MTA diesel in running condition typically sells in the range of 5 to 6 grand. Aso, the Super M diesels are noted for having head problems, mostly from people not allowing to cool before shutting down, after working them hard. The heads are very expensive to repair, and almost impossible to find unless someone has started making replacements.

SMTA-Diesels are scare, only 1500 or so of them made to start with. I've only seen two that I can recall. Restored ones done nice will bring 5 figures at the right time and place. Diesels are expensive to rebuild, if I found a good running SM-D or SMTA-D I wouldn't really hesitate if the price was right, if it needed engine work it would have to be bought really cheap, in my opinion...

Figure the SMTA Diesel going for about 5 x $1800 at the auction.

Saw a pretty clapped-out SMTA gas go for over $5000 at an auction here a year ago.

People are nuts about the SMTAs. They don't seem to lose any value.
