advice on a 300 Utility

First, I have very little knowledge on a 300 utility, however, I have a friend that wants to sell one to me. I have seen it, but not heard it run. the sheet metal is pretty good. has the normal seal leaks around rear pto, etc. It has a TA and I am not sure if it works correctly. I know it has a snowplow with it as well. tires are 40%. It doesnt look too bad.

he's asking 1500 for it. To me the price is good, but as I mentioned i know nothing about the 300 utility.

Can you share your thoughts and give me some advice?

If it's any kinda half way decent shape it's worth that. A really nice 300U would easily be worth 3K

Make sure the steering is in good shape. I don't think they had any particular problem, at least unless it was under a loader. But I understand that steering parts are kind of expensive and hard to find.

Thanks for advice on steering. I have been told by others that same thing. Watch out for the steering. I was also told if it has power steering my chances are alittle better.

I really don't know on that. My gut reaction is that with power steering, it is easier to abuse the steering without overworking yourself. I have also heard the comment (seems reasonable) that power steering with an assist at the tie rods is easier on the components than one that works on the steering wheel side of the steering gear. That way the power assist isn't loading the steering gear. I don't know how power steering on a 300U is set up.
