M pistons ?

I have a 1946 Farmall M that I will be overhauling soon and am starting to line up an overhaul kit, will send block to machine shop for machine work on it, boiling, magnafluxing ETC. Will the stepped pistons fit it without any modifications to the head ? I assume the stepped will give more HP, is that a correct assumption ?
Thanks for your help

The 1940 M we just finished up has 4.00 " stepped head pistons in it, It has a 1945 head on it ,( why I can only guess ,) just check the top of the head to be sure it has clearance in there. we had no problem , got the sleeves and pistons from Yesterdays tractor. Went in nice.
Any questions I will be glad to help out, since this M is still fresh in my memory, Will e-mail you some pic of our M engine.
Hope it helps
Phil

fyi, if you haven't done one before

the M is a dry sleeve engine. a sleeve puller with the correct adapter is the easiest way to remove them. i made mine and have the machine shop make the adapters as i need them.
to reinstall the sleeves, heat the block on a furniture dolley with a torpedo heater and freeze the sleeves. drive them home with a couple blocks of wood and a hammer. the furniture dolley is so you can rotate the block to heat it evenly.
or have the shop do it.
