Farmall Cub

Just thought I'd post a picture of our "new" '51 Farmall "M". This picture was taken in August before we bought her. I'll post some better ones in a few days. I spotted about 3 years ago sitting about 6 miles from our house. The price may have been a little much, but I figured it was worth something not having to drive a couple hundred miles to get it. Around here they are few and far between and there really is no antique tractor interest around here. We brought it home on September 22 and after a few evenings of tinkering we've got it running fairly well. It was missing the lights and a pto shield. It came with a new battery box. Sometime in its past it had been converted to 12V. I cut off all the old wiring and rewired it, and its now working like a top. The ol' girl now has a good home won't have to sit outside anymore. We're tickled to death with her. I really appreciate all I've learned from this forum.

Great looking tractor. Only thing I can see wrong with it is that muffler. Big ol tractor like that needs a straight pipe so people know you're coming. :lol:

Ron,

I've got a friend down in Wendell NC that uses straight chrome stacks on his H's and M's, those are sweet. You can bet that one of those double wall pipes will top her off...it may just be a while comin'. Last night I pulled the stack off of it to back it in the shed, man it sounded good...neighbors probably didn't think so... :lol:

I like my big muffler.Like my HD nice tone but no noise.Work all day with a straight pipe and you'll go deaf.I've all ready lost 50% in my right ear.Nice tractor,have fun with it.My H is now in the garage for the winter.Kevin :twisted:

,,,,,,, thats a nice looking M, wish I had one........... I have a whooping 2.25 acres just can't justify a big tractor of any type :cry:

Jackman I have 3 1/2 acres.I have a H !! Ican find more reasons to have it than not.A smile on my face makes it worthless.I had 2 buddies over from Maryland last weekend[Rode Harleys out] And the one guy said,Kevin has a big farm tractor we can have fun with.We all had a blast!!! I got free labor,they got a smile out of it and my tractor got used.I keep a big garden [1 acre] And enjoy a big tractor.I always find a use for it at weird times.I would not trade it for anything!!! Cubs are fun but sometimes you need more!!!Bigger is better!!! Kevin

Justify? Hmmm...we live on just under two acres, most of which is hillside, not at all suitable for an "M", but we got it anyway...goes well with the three JD garden tractors, and right now they are being kept company buy my boss's '59 JD 430W that I am restoring over the winter...The neighbors probably think I'm crazy...

My little 2.25 acre lot is somewhat residential and aslo very wet and soft the big power would turn my place in to a mud pit for sure,,,,,,,,, I do have my sights set on a nice Super A that may fill my need or actually desire for a bigger tractor Super A's are cool too just not up there with the H's and M's .........may be someday I'll get a bigger place and some big power :big afro:

, what am I waiting for were all the same I gotta get me some big Iron and then wait for the neighbors to give me that strange look like I am some sort of nut :roll:

........ I have two Cubs and one JD 850 and I am absolutly the Odd Man in the hood and darn proud of it $:{_}:$ ,,,,,,,,,,, maybe an H or M my future :big afro:

nice tractor, I am looking for an oliver 60, Had 1 on the farm when I was kid and my cousin sent it out to get fixed and it never came back.

You can never have to many tractors

you can never have to much horsepower

But as the wife says "you have to many payments" :oops:

I know every tractor is different and this is hard to do with an email, but I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on the value of a 1951 M. Seems to run perfectly - started instantly when cold, no smoke, clutch, gears and brakes seem fine. It is 'weathered' in that it has been outside for at least 4-5 years if not longer, and has an oxidized finish and a complete stripping and repainting will be necessary. Will need tires and one rear rim, but otherwise no immediate fixes needed. The owner seems absolutely stuck at $2K but it is NOT moving at that price and so far my $1300.00 offer is not working. Thanks in advance for your advice and thoughts. P.S. my goal is to return the tractor to her former glory and be big brother to my two Cubs.

In this area what you describe would bring no more than $1000. $1300 is a very fair offer.

Smack Go back to see him with the 13hundred with 1 $100 bill an.d the rest $50's. Smack them back and forth nice and easy in your hand against the other as you talk. It might get his attention Riffle them a bit as you talk too. Talk about the weather first. Too much rain drought. Price up tires and Rims then add tax and complain about the shipping and mounting the tires. Then oh dang I have to order tubes too, ask him what he thinks they will cost. Need a little ole snake medicine man at times. You got a crop to plant or get in you pay his price and be glad. Perhaps you can lower your bid because of one non Epay or craiges list. hem and haw about the wife. Get him on your side before you talk money. Kep it in your hand but give the impression you don't know if you should with times so bad, big banks are going under.

Thats a good looking M it want take too much to bring her up to snuff, But I like em it there work cloths .
They are good tractors Just be carefull up there in them hills and keep it on its feet
