If I stay with the two way set up will I still need the breather or can I just plug it off. I ask because the oil should stay about the same level all the time with a two way cylinder.
Thanks

Unless you consider the volume of the rod.

No, you cannot plug the breather. Any oil that returns to the tank will displace air. If it can't escape it will try to pressurize the liftall, and boy will you have leaks then. Most old liftalls have worn shaft seals to the pump and man without a breather that dude will spew oil. As George said there a little consideration for the volume delta because of the ram but most systems aren't built that volume critical unless you start putting cylinders all over the place. I have 2 3's and a 21/2 on my H with a 3gal reservoir all 2way and have no problems with oil out the breather. I'll some pics of my setup tonight.

I don't think that it is over full as I can't even lift it up any more with out putting more oil in it.
Also as an after thought and looking at some of the books that I have they show what I believe is the supply oil going in on the left side of the valve. Would this make any difference versus the one in the front?

My memory is bad I know but I remember ports on just the front and back as its mounted. Not left and right. And it sure looked from the drawing I looked at that the inlet was on the forward side. Could something as silly as an obstruction be in the filler tube? Does it blow out the breather when moving in one direction only and not the other?
