Front Bolster Wedge Help

I have to wander over here to the other larger, but not as cute IH forum. My buddy has an M, narrow front, that shimmy and shakes in the front end. He has one of those wedges, but which end faces what way? Does the thick part go to the front or vice versa?

Thanks
Andy

Andy, if you look at the wedge, it is marked. The thin edge goes to the front.

Thanks, BD and Duh!

I have never looked at it, but I guess the manufacturer used the KISS method of design; Keep It Simple Stupid!

Andy, I'm not actually familiar with the wedge which (correct me if I'm wrong Bigdog) give the bolster some caster to help eliminate the shimmy. However most of the shimmy may be related to the upper bolster bushings being worn out. If you jack up the front end from the frame rails letting the lower bolster hang, see how much play is up there. You might find its loose as a goose. The bushings are still available from Case IH. Also how wide are the front wheels spaced? I've found wider spacing aggrevates the issue.

WK, I believe it iw a combination of the two problems. the lack of castor tends to emphaaize the worn bushings, makeing the results worse.
