Farmall MD Starter
I have an MD that needs a starter bendix gear because the old one is stripped out. I was looking at the ones on Stiener Tractor [part number ABC 547] but the bendix for the farmall letter series never said that it would fit an MD. Will it fit my MD or will I have to go somewhere else to get one?

Re: Farmall MD Starter
All I can tell you is that the original part number for the Bendix drive for the MD was different from the one for the M. That doesn't necessarily mean a current replacement won't work for both, but it seems unlikely.

Re: Farmall MD Starter
I wonder why the part number is different because it is still starting the gas side of the engine. I also noticed that it has 3 smaller bolts on it. Didn't gas Ms only have 2 bolts on the starter instead? I took the starter apart on it trying to get at the Bendix and if I remember correctly it has 6 brushes instead of 4. Is it a completely different starter too? I might have to look into it some more or ask the Steiner customer service people and see if they now anything about it.

Re: Farmall MD Starter
The MD requires a heavier starter because it has a very high compression ratio compares to the M, the engine is much more difficult to spin. If you have an old time starter / generator shop, in your area, they can likely help you out.
