Finally had a chance to talk to the "old timer". He said new plates are not available and finding another used would likely be difficult as not too many of them were made. He said he had been dealing in tractor parts since the early seventies and had only seen 2 or 3 of the vertical distributors. Measure the head diameter and the hole diameter and I'll bet we can come up with something that can be easily ground down/machined to work if you think you need that part.
Edit: there is one on eBay for $60 (whole distributor)

I've not looked into the matter any further since the points are holding set without that "screw". That would make sense that it would be peened on the bottom. Next time I'm in there I will have to have a look and try to remember to let you know what it looks like down there

Click on your name, then click on "Edit Profile" to the right of your name. Click on "Board Preferences", then on "Edit notification profiles". You can choose how you want to be notified there.
