If you replace the pilot bushing just remember to check the size AFTER you install it and compare that to the shaft. You may need to hone it a bit to resize it since the installation will sometimes slightly alter the ID. You could also check the size ID before you remove the one you have. It might only need honeing a bit to fit the shaft.

Thanks. I never thought of that. I have several hones if need be, but nothing has really changed, here: these are all original parts that were in the tractor before, so I don't see how the bushing or shaft could have grown or shrunk in size since having the two pieces apart, but I'll check anyway. It's got to be a simple fix... this ain't repairing a new Boeing! And thanks again for all the advice and wisdom.

I seem to remember the crank was turned, if so something might have happened to the bushing when the crank was in the machine, depending on how it was secured in the machine. Should not be a problem to resize the existing one or replace it with another one, other than sometimes it can be stubborn to get it removed.
