negative grond wire location

Postby photoman63 » Thu May 26, 2016 3:25 pm

After a brought my darling home I started geeting a real good look at her. I knew she was a 12volt changeover, and I see were the positive wire connects to the battery, but I can't find the ground wire. I figure I'll need to get a new one, just not sure we're it should bolt to the chassis so not sur how long of a wire I'll need.

The How To is for a 6V, positive ground system. But, you can use the technique and just reverse the cable connections.

You can put the ground pretty much anywhere that is solidly attached to the tractor. Behind the dash somewhere or maybe to the steering wheel post.

Doesn't look like you have a battery box in the other post. When the battery is in it in front of the clutch pedal, the best place I have found to ground the battery is the left side starter mounting bolt, Eliminates quite a few connections to get rusty and interfere with starting. Second choice would be one of the torques tube/engine bolts right next to the starter if you have a worn ring gear and have to loosen the starter often to unjam it.

There is a battery platform in the stock location on the left under the gas tank.

Just run the ground cable to the left starter bolt, as recommended above. This gives you the shortest distance for the electricity to travel for best starter performance. It makes more difference on 6V systems.
