I just bought an old Farmall wide front at an estate auction. It has a broken spindle but no other breaks, no welds, and no bends anywhere. I got super lucky that nobody else seemed to know what it was. I got it for $30!!
At the sale it was sitting behind and H so I presume it was for the H.
I looked in the parts books on caseih.com to see what part numbers are interchangeable and to attempt to figure out which one I have.
As far as I can tell, the only difference between the 2 is the set back plate and the steering arm that bolts where the narrow front bolster would go.
The spindles are the same and so is pretty much everything else except a few fasteners and grease zerk sizes which I find odd since the parts associated with these little items are the same.
I haven't actually had much time since then to look over the front end and measure things, but a quick measurement of the setback plate width matches my M so I might be exceptionally lucky.
I haven't had a chance to measure the steering arm or bolster attachment yet since the M and front end live at my parents' farm.
Can anyone verify that the front ends are indeed nearly interchangeable?
Thanks!

I believe you have correctly identified the only differences and made the correct measurement to ID it.
I haven't done much with H or M, so could be wrong.

I was able to go do some more quick investigating last night and took a few pictures. It's looking like I have an M front end! Now I just need to save up for that spindle.

Re: Farmall H or/and M Wide Front Interchangeable?
I should note to anyone researching that for some reason the tie rods on my front end are swapped from left to right. It should be the other way around. In other words, the steering arm rod should go to the left side as you face the front of the tractor, not to the right.
