That's right Bob. But this little field was right next to the old barn and house so it got the most attention, and it's not bad. I remember clearing off new land and I bet the volume of rocks in the top 8" was more than the volume of soil. But it is a rich, well-drained soil, in fact we had 24 hrs of rain and about 8 hours later I was making this video today.

Bob, Did you re-work that JD 52 plow by chance? I'm looking for some parts for a 51. Especially the internals of the furrow wheel. Any advice / suggestions much appreciated.

It sat outside, across the road, down the lane >25 years. I was thinking about taking the lift mechanism apart, then suddenly it started working and it never misses. The Jimdog spent some time getting everything freed up. We'll be needing to get some points but otherwise all set. I've got a couple parts manuals, will attach to an email, sending now.

Bob, Now that brings back some memories. I have a few hours on an H with a trailer plow. By the time I was old enough to plow most of it was being done with the M but if in a hurry both tractors would be used and the H is a lot easier to drive. The clutch especially, I had to slide forward in the seat on the M and push as hard as I could. Dad had international plows, was there one called a chief? Thanks for the post I enjoyed it. Vern

VW, there was an IH Plow chief, which had a similar design to the JD in bob's video and a Little Genius, which was a heavier duty one, and the rear wheel was a trailing wheel that stayed on the ground. I have a lot of hours on our H with a Little Genius on steel behind me. it is a real thrill to get to the end of the land and just as you pull the trip rope it breaks away. It is amazing how far your arm will stretch before you mange to let go.

John, Thanks. Then the plows I remember were Genius since both had the third wheel. I've had to retrieve a plow many times. We had one field that had more rocks than the rest of the farm put together. Dad filled with rocks quite a bit of an old gravel pit the county had used for the road. Vern

There's a method to the madness with the baler twine.
When the plow hits a rock, it is designed to come unhooked from the tractor.
The rope needs to be tied to the seat so you can reach it. If you tied it with the full-strength rope, it would rip the seat off the tractor and take you with it!!! Twine breaks.

Matt thats exactly what my father and grandfather said! And we have the rocks !
