Super H with Little Wonder plow

Postby CTFD24 » Sat Oct 08, 2022 7:01 pm

I bought this Little Wonder 2-bottom plow to use with my Farmall Super H at plow days. However, it has a clevis bolted to it instead of the factory style breakaway hitch. I plan to find the correct hitch, but won't be able to before our plow day next weekend. I'm concerned about hitting a large rock and damaging the tractor if I use a standard hitch pin with the clevis. Should I be too concerned about this? Would something like a grade 2 bolt be strong enough to pull the plow but shear off if need be? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you were to get into something hard or immovable, you could definitely break something with that setup or even go for a ride  But slow and easy probably won't be an issue.

It looks like you are missing the draft hook. The hitch assembly I think is a POTH-176 (maybe others) and it is a spring release hitch for use behind orchard and grove type tractors, see page 570 (589 of PDF file below) for parts breakdown and more information.

You can download the PO-4A manual in the plow parts manual section (Quick Links, top left of page) and get an idea of what you are looking for with a part number.

My plow has a different hitch on it, that utilizes a twisted clevis on the drawbar.

You may already know, but when you have a break-away hitch, don't tie the trip rope off tight to the seat. Use an S-hook made of fence wire or coat hanger so the rope can unhook with the plow. You don't want to catapult off the seat if the plow trips and the rope breaks! Don't ask.

Or wrap the rope around your hand. Don't ask how I know this...

Hopefully you still have two hands. My son degloved a finger when the baler twine he tied to the No. 8 caught on his finger just as he was raising the plow and caught a root.

Yikes! I do still have two working hands. It happened when I was 16 or so and squeezed the dickens out of my hand before it somehow released it, happened faster than I could think. I initially thought it was broken somewhere, it was sore for quite a while. I don't remember what caused the plow to disconnect, don't think it tripped...that was a long time ago. The lift line was twine as well, but it think the savior was the yellow gloves that I was wearing. I believe it to be the reason I have problems with this hand in my older age now.

If that is the only side effect, one lucky guy.
