HELP!
Does anyone know if you can retrieve a serial number without a tag? I hope there is a way to do this. Going to buy a tractor but the rarety is pointless without this tag thank you

Welcome Mike, to the greatest Cub website on the planet. By researching casting codes you can pretty much nail down when a tractor was built but without a serial tag you'll never get much closer than that. As you said a rare tractor without a serial tag is pointless. There are guys out there building counterfiet "collectable" tractors. I had a friend who owns a very rare tractor and at the local fair, someone stole the serial tag from his tractor. The only reason anyone would have for doing that would be to counterfiet a tractor to fleece some unsuspectIng buyer down the road.

If by chance you were referring to an early A, a pre-super like my '46 and built in Chicago you'd be in luck.
On those tractors the serial # on the tag has an identical number stamped onto the engine block.
This much I know for sure but I speculate that this practice wasn't isolated to the A.
