HELP!

Postby MichiganMike » Tue Apr 26, 2016 12:15 am

Does anyone know if you can retrieve a serial number without a tag? I hope there is a way to do this. Going to buy a tractor but the rarety is pointless without this tag thank you

Welcome Mike, to the greatest Cub website on the planet. :{_}: By researching casting codes you can pretty much nail down when a tractor was built but without a serial tag you'll never get much closer than that. As you said a rare tractor without a serial tag is pointless. There are guys out there building counterfiet "collectable" tractors. I had a friend who owns a very rare tractor and at the local fair, someone stole the serial tag from his tractor. The only reason anyone would have for doing that would be to counterfiet a tractor to fleece some unsuspectIng buyer down the road.

If by chance you were referring to an early A, a pre-super like my '46 and built in Chicago you'd be in luck.
On those tractors the serial # on the tag has an identical number stamped onto the engine block.
This much I know for sure but I speculate that this practice wasn't isolated to the A.
Mike.
