Hello, looking for a little advice. I have an opportunity to purchase a sickle mower attachment for my 1948 Case VAI. The seller says it works, and wants $400 for it. I thought the price was a bit high, but maybe I'm the one who is wrong. Here are a few pics of the tractor mower so you have a better idea: http://s537.photobucket.com/albums/ff34 ... %20SICKLE/My personal opinion is $400 is probably 1/2 the value of the entire running tractor alone. Am I off here? Thanks guys! Have a great tractoring summer 2010! JOHN in VA

Its not so much that I 'need it' as opposed to wanting it as a cool looking attachment for my show tractor. I would have to strip it and clean it up and have it sprayed to match my current Case color Orange. The cutting bar (just from looking at pics) dont look very long. But I'm not sure what a standard size was or is for this 1948 year. So, as you can see now I have to put some money and time into this sickle. Perhaps $400 is too much. Maybe I'll offer $300?

any functional, complete antique tractor implement is worth $300, maybe more. Gerry

Just my 2 cents (wort less than a penny though), the really big advantage to that particular sickle mower is that it is mounted and you know that you are getting every piece to re-mount it to your tractor. Have you ever tried to find a single missing bracket or piece from an attachment that is over 50 years old. You will spend more than a hundred dollars in phone calls and running around to find that missing piece. 2 cents worth, NJDale
