Anyone Know About H and M Wide Fronts?

Postby Brandon Webb » Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:12 pm

Just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with the Factory IH wide fronts, with the tie rods in front? I'm needing to know if an M front is the same as the H, and I also have some questions about the hubs. Thanks Brandon.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the two will interchange readily. Keep in mind that an M is exactly two inches wider than an H.

What do you need to know about the hubs?

There's one on ebay in michigan dad was interested in, his buddy is going within 50 miles of it Saturday to pickup a car. The people are saying that it'll fit an M or an H, we didn't think so. He has a 45 H(rusty) on full steel. He wants to put his wide front end under the H and put the factory H front steel on the wide front. He said the H hubs are smaller and won't fit the spindles. I didn't know if this could be corrected with new bearings or if it took a special spindle to bolt up the early steel. I've only seen one photograph of an H with full steel and a wide front, it would definatly be different. Brandon.

I think they are mostly the same. Check numbers in the Parts Catalogs.

Mine are very different. Maybe it's because the M has a Schwartz and the H is IH?

IH made 2 different versions that were very different from each other too. The early ones were cast. The later ones were made of tubular steel, much like the Cub axle.

Have any of you seen an IH wide front on an H with full steel? Any pics? There was a picture of one in a parts book on ebay, but we got outbid. He loves the IH wide fronts because there so "ugly" with the tie rods out front where you'll booger them. The one on his 45 M is Cast.

A couple of yrs ago at Kings auction there must have been a dozen for sale. Seemed to me they were all interchangeable.

I know the same wide front on my C will also fit the M's & H's , Because I remeber my Father talking about" maybe trading the wide out for a try. style". But, He never did.
Here's a picture of the C.

CUB 1948,

The Wide front off a C will not fit on a H or M. the H and M wide front arent even directly intercahngeable with out some modification to them. Wide fronts that will fit and are interchangable for a M are SM, 400, 450, 460, 560, ect... the list goes on. H would be SH, 300, 350.
C would be SC, 200, 230 etc..
