Spreading wood chips - IH 284 w/JI case 125

Postby cjet69 » Thu Oct 04, 2018 12:30 pm

Shot a video of dad spreading the wood chips. He is using a n IH 284 pulling a JI case 125 spreader. The drive chain is disconnected from the rear beater so the chips aren't thrown all over.

What is the reason for spreading wood chips on the gravel roads?

Not sure it's a gravel road at all, may be wood chips as well. I'm basing this partly on what I can see of the road, and also on the fact the cows are allowed to use the road. Most people don't put "hooved" animals on gravel....But we'll see what the poster says in response.

edit: corrected post to say "hooved" animals; spell check isn't sure about "hooved", so "animals with hooves"

Barb wire fence on one side and electric fence on the other, my guess would be it is a lane for cattle to get from one area to another.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

No gravel on this part of the lane. Just fabric with wood chips on top. Our ground can be wet and muddy in the early spring and late fall and the lane keeps the cattle up out of the soft ground while moving between pasture. We divide the farm up into approx. 100' x 600' pastures and rotate the cattle to a new pasture every 2 days. The barb wire fence is the perimeter fence and the plastic electric is used to divide up into the 100' x 600' pastures.
