Farmall 200 Remote Hyd. Valve Rebuild

Postby AL Farmall Boy » Fri Apr 29, 2016 9:58 am

Has anyone on here ever rebuilt the factory remote valve found on Farmall 200 tractors and the like with the 2 pt fast hitch? Just acquired a Farmall 200 parts tractor with a 2 pt fast hitch that I'm gonna put on a Farmall Super C tractor. I want to rebuild the remote valve so I know it'll work well and not leak. Looking up the parts in the parts catalogue on Case/IH website, I only see that the replaceable/serviceable parts are:

  • Rubber Boot (p/n 356790R91)
  • Oil Seal (p/n 356784R91)
  • Bottom Cap Gasket (was told is a copper washer so probably ok)
  • (4) O-rings for Hydraulic Manifold/Lines (p/n 350667R1)

I've asked others and get conflicting information as to what serviceable parts are in these units. I've heard there are o-rings inside and not an oil seal. Also, what about the gasket that goes between the valve assembly and the TC unit? I didn't see that listed on the Parts Breakdown on the Case/IH site.

I've never had one apart. But as far as I know, you have listed everything that can be replaced. The seal you listed is the only place they can normally leak. I believe the gasket between this and the block is the same as used between the standard manifold and the block.

Good to know Jim. I was told by some folks on another site that there isn't a seal but just o-rings. Specifically, (1) o-ring on the spool and (2) o-rings on the pipe flange.......I presume he means the (2) o-rings on the manifold/lines right there at the connection to the valve. Just wondering why it's not shown that way in the parts catalog.

Update. I found and ordered a new oil seal for the valve body and installed it into the bore by driving it in with a socket of the same diameter. Went in easily and I noticed that it was slightly loose. When I put the valve plunger back in and pushed it easily through the seal, it pushed the seal out of the bore. I was able to drive the seal back in the bore but I don't want it Loose like that, and I don't like having the possibility for it to push back out when operating the valve.

I messed up the new seal trying to make sure it was driven into the bore all the way, so I've got to order a new one now. Question is what do you think I should do to prevent the next seal from fitting so loosely. I thought that maybe the new seal was improperly manufactured and another one would solve it. But then I remembered the original seal came out of the bore very easily. I need some help.

Here are some pictures of the old seal before it was replaced.

Well.....I decided to order 3 more seals of the same part number as I got before (part 6120 Chicago Rawhide). If these fit loosely, I'm gonna try either a little bit of JB Weld or some Loctite Sealing Compound (if I can source some at the parts store). Going to have to be careful and not get it anywhere but the outside diameter of the seal. Hopefully it will work and stay tight in there.

Just did one on Super c last year, that seal has varnish or something close to it on the outside diameter, messed one up before the mechanic at work show me the need to remove coating in order for it to go in straight---- so mine was too tight, I will be doing my 200 this weekend and see what happens with this one

If I remember right the gasket between the valve body and the touch control is not the same as the standard non fast hitch gasket. I had a hard time finding the right part number. I will see if I can find it.

Rexxon,

I see what you're saying about the gasket. I ordered mine from Ken Updike and he said the gaskets were the same and I thought nothing else of it. It isn't shown online in the parts breakdown because the valve isn't shown with the TC Block and the attaching parts like the shoulder bolts are left out of the parts catalog. That is something very easy to miss.

Thank you for the heads up, but I have gotten it all back together as of last night and everything seems to be working perfect. What are the ill effects if I leave the standard gasket on there?

I do not really know, I replaced mine on the 200 today and left the valve on the tractor while doing it, it was a lot easier just leaving it on the tractor.
