Two to Three point hitch question

Postby tmays » Fri Mar 21, 2014 7:24 pm

Angle on mine appears to angle too far back at the top. Could someone measure the angle on theirs? Angle of crossbar relative to the fast hitch points. (Vertical to horizontal, front to back). Sorry if I've muddied the water! :-). Trying to hook up a bush hog and top link bracket on bush hog is against top link bracket of hitch. Thanks
Thomas

Similar Don, but not same one. I'll see if I have a pic.

I don't have one. Just trying to clarify your question for others.

Does your brush hog have a way to adjust the top link connection point further back? Could you post a couple pictures?

Use the depth control to lower the front of the fast hitch and change the angle.

"Almost touching" is what you want anyway. You don't use a full-length toplink. Just short connector bar.

Thomas, here are some pictures of the 3-pt hitch I use. Does that help? Sorry it took so long to get these.

Thanks, Mr Vince. Yes, that's the one I have. I can't tell very well from your pics, but it looks like the upright crossover bar is at 90 deg to the fast hitch prongs. Are they? Mine is angled more than 90 to the prongs. Trying to find out if mine has been modified or not. Thanks!

I think you will find that the arch leans back from vertical.

Thomas, Here is a picture of the angle on the hitch. Hope this is what you are looking for. Let me know if I can do anything else.

One caveat to the whole deal is that there is no standard for 3pt hitch dimensions beyond the spacing between the two lift pins and the diameters of the pins.

Fore/aft and vertical alignment of the top link pin in relation to the lift pins is up to the individual implement manufacturer, and each one has their own idea of what is best.

I put forth to you that it is your Bush Hog that is "wrong" not the 3pt hitch adapter.

Thanks Mr Vince, looks just like mine.

Thanks Matt. Wasn't saying mine was wrong, just wanted to be sure. I've never seen one in the flesh before I got mine. Weld didn't look 'professional' so I wanted to make sure it hadn't been modified. Front of my fast hitch is as low as it will go and bush hog will barely hook up and front of hog is still higher than I'd like Don't know what you mean about bush hog wrong. Factory made and looks fine

On mine with the same adapter, I removed the top link (the piece with all the holes) and use a piece of chain, works better and if I run up on something while going backwards the chain will let the back of the bushog ride up with no binding on anything
