Farmall Cub

I have to replace the shock absorber on the Super C seat.

Any idea of what the commercial equivalent is? I can make out the word "MONROE" but that is about all. Thanks.

2010 Valu-Bilt catalog lists seat shock absorbers. Lists replacements by tractor model, shock absorber length, and IH part number. Bushings cost extra.

I would research the IH part number then visit my favorite auto parts store. Take old shock absorber along. I picked up seat shock absorbers for Allis Chalmers from auto parts store.

Take a look at this one. Might work for you.

I got mine on eBay. If I remember correctly, it was about $30.

Thanks guys. We are going to town tomorrow so I will check at the local independent auto store. If they don't have a matching shock, I will check e-bay.

I checked with Monroe this morning and they had no cross reference for their own shock.

I stopped at a couple local auto parts stores and they just shook their head. Said they had no way to look up based on size, length of stroke, etc. The auto parts stores in our area are nothing to write home about. The only good one we had (NAPA) went out of business a couple of years ago.

I will order one this week over the internet.

Our H used a shock like that for the seat. Not only do you have to consider length and stroke, but also strength. You do not need one that is near as strong for a tractor seat as is used on a car, or the seat will not move. Back when vehicles used shocks rather than struts we would go to some of the local car repairs and search through their junk piles until we found a worn out one the right length. Have you checked Steiner?

John, You raise some good points - as usual.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that Steiner not only has the exact shock I need but at a better price than I could find anywhere else. I will order it Thursday. Thanks.
