Splitting a SC

At some point I want to split my SC and replace the rear seal, and while it's apart I will replace the clutch and turn the PP. So was wondering what the best way is to split the SC from those of you who have. My tractor has the tricycle front so I am thinking it could be very interesting if not done properly.

I have an idea of how I will block up the rear half but as mentioned, not sure what the best way is to go about the front, and pulling it apart. I have split my Cub, but this is obviously a little different!

Thanks in advance for the wisdom and advice!!

I've helped split 3 larger tractors (856, 756, W400), in addition to my Cub, but they all had wide fronts, so the following thoughts are theoretical:

On all my experiences, we've used a simple splitting cradle under the front half, with steel rollers and a wide stance (about 3'). We never wedged the front end, so the cradle was the only thing keeping the front half stable. It worked just fine. There was never a doubt about stability during the entire process.

Today, if I were to split a narrow-front C, I would use a splitting cradle with a wide footprint. As insurance, I would also build some simple outriggers that bolt to the front bolster on each side. These would limit the amount the tractor could tip to either side.

Here's a real nice shot of what looks to be a good splitting stand.

Dang boys, that place is a gem! They've got alternator conversion kits for the Cub, and the splitting stand fits on the Cub too.

Matt,

I haven't look in on my post in a few days, but Thank You for posting a pic of the stand. I really appreciate that. That's a darn nice stand!

That stand looks like the ones we used in the 60's at the IH dealer my dad worked at.

Larry, either I read this on his website, or I strongly suspect, that these stands are patterned after the splitting stands used at IH dealerships.
