David, First off, sorry about the dog. hope all works out well.
Second, I moved a tractor for my BIL today and there seems to be a dispute what it is. I know its a C. The seller says it's a super C. Emblem on hood says so. Facts: Tag by seat says mod FC Ser # 167005 JD Has disc brakes., Has no water pump. I know in the later years of C's they put the disc brakes on em. However I haven't had the pleasure of seeing a super c without a water pump. WHATCHA THINK :?: :?: :?: Thanks. Grump

Serial number and disk brakes say Super C. But it should have a water pump. Maybe the engine has been changed out for an earlier one?

Grumpy, I have seen a few with super C back ends on C front ends
Scratch the dirt and oil off the side of the block Cs have 113s in em and suoer Cs have 123s SC grille is longer and you can get your hand in between the gas tank and the TC unit and not on the Cs

Some other differences between C and Super C--- Super C's have a temp. guage--C has no hole in dash panel for one, C has a smaller diameter steering wheel, and C's have no more than five digits in serial#,Super C's have six digits. This, of course, goes out the window if someone has changed the seat base and tag.

Update: it is a super C. Found the water pump and has a temp guage. I thought the water pump would be on the lower right front of the block but I needed to look harder. thanks for all the input. As has been said thousands of times, this is what makes this such a great site. thanks to all. :) :) Grump

A temperature gauge was available for the C. If there, it went bottom center in the instrument panel.

Jim-I stand corrected(again)and humbled by your vast knowledge of IH tractors. I wonder how many C's had a temp guage, and if it was for those tractors with radiator shutters or distillate/kerosene fueled units?

I imagine that they were typically on tractors with shutters (which could have been part of a fuel option). Ours had a water pump and the temperature gauge was part of that package too.

My demo C has a temp guage and is straight gas. Doesnt appear to ever had shutters because there is no hole in the instrament base for the control to mount and no hole in the hood for the small tank. Chuck
